Budgeting Worksheet and Tips

Do you recognize that money is being spent, but that you don’t know what that money is being spent on? Would you like to know where all your money is going? If so, you are ready to learn about creating your own budgeting worksheet and tips about how to properly budget.

Learning about creating your own budgeting worksheet and tips about budgeting is not as daunting a process as most people would assume. A budgeting worksheet can be a very simple listing of your regular expenses. All you have to do is track your expenses for a month, and then you will have all the information you will need in order to create your own budgeting worksheet.

Because everyone has unique financial needs based on their income, spending habits, and other factors, each person’s budgeting worksheet and tips will be different. However, just because everyone’s budgeting worksheet and tips will be different does not mean that there will be some features that will be common to all budgeting worksheets and tips.

Some key features that should be included in every budgeting worksheet and tips list include:

  • Total Monthly Gross Income- This includes deductions for taxes, health insurance, savings, and 401K contributions. These expenses are often taken directly off your paycheck, so you may not realize this money is being spent every time you receive a paycheck.
  • Housing Expenses- This includes your rent or mortgage payment, utilities, and repairs. Even though you may not make repairs every month, it is still important to put this money aside each month. That way, should a major roof repair surprise you one rainy night, you will have the money put aside to pay for the repair.
  • Car Expenses- This includes loan payments, gas, insurance, and repairs. If you are not making car payments, you should be putting money aside each month for a future down payment on a new car. This will save you money in the long run.
  • Miscellaneous- This category will vary the most from person to person. This section includes groceries, clothing, entertainment, school tuition, prescriptions, pet supplies, gifts, cash, and anything else you can imagine. Most people find that the money they do not remember spending often falls into this category.

Creating your own budgeting worksheet and tips need not be a difficult or confusing task. Once you make a habit of tracking your expenses, you will find sticking to a budget is a relatively easy task.
